Making it Happen

Since our group started, we have felt the call to care for women who have lost their husbands nationwide. We had plans in May of 2020 to have a retreat at our church in Pennsylvania. We had intended to invite women from other churches in Pennsylvania who at our same stage of life to attend our retreat. Our plan was to serve a lovely brunch, have a time of worship, a speaker and a time of personal reflection for the ladies to encourage them and point them to Christ as the source of their strength.  From there we hoped that the women who attended from each church would take the resources they received back to their church and start a similar group of their own. Unfortunately, COVID put a stop to those plans.

However…We Were Not to be Stopped!

We developed this website to use technology to spread the idea of Sister Chix which actually worked out better because we could reach more churches via the internet!

If you have women in your church who are widowed or divorced, we want to offer you our resources free of charge so you can support them through a very difficult time in their lives.

The Bible clearly tells churches to care for widows and orphans. Though it doesn’t say anything about women who have been divorced, we can’t ignore that divorce happens and it is not always the fault of the woman and certainly not the children. Women who have been abandoned by their husbands or abused and left their husbands, feel the loss of the spouse as much as a widow does. That’s why we include divorced women to be part of our group.

The most important goal of our ministry is to point our group of women to Christ to begin or deepen a relationship with the only One who can truly understand their pain. The importance of a deeper relationship with Christ is so crucial. The last thing women who have experienced the pain of the loss of a husband needs is to rush into another relationship in order to avoid the pain. A group like ours can be a support to help the hurting woman from making that choice.

Grief knits two hearts in closer bonds than happiness ever can; and common sufferings are far stronger links than common joys. ~ Alphonse de Lamartine
