WEEK 3 | The Garden of our Heart
The Faith to Wait for the Garden
to Bloom

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; Ecclesiastes 3: 1, 2 (KJV)

Last summer I purchased several packets of various wildflower seeds. I planted them and watered them and waited expectantly for their little heads to push through the ground. I waited and I waited. Nothing happened. When you plant seeds you have faith that they will develop into what was promised on the package. I thought maybe I did something wrong when I sowed them and I thought maybe I should uproot them. But I decided to wait.
Then one day, late in the season, something green started pushing its way through the ground. I thought it looked like a weed and I planned to pull it but I decided to keep watering it and see if anything developed. “Even weeds can have beauty” I thought to myself. Every day I looked and saw nothing. Then, in the fall I looked out at the garden and saw the weed has a blossom. The next day another and another. What finally developed from what I thought was a weed was a beautiful Black-eyed Susan!
I think sometimes we feel as though the weeds of sin that we battle daily will never die. We drink the Living Water of God’s Word and can often get discouraged because it seems as though God isn’t answering our prayers to rid us of sin and bring out the beauty that only He can give us. But God is faithful and He will answer our prayers and sanctify us in due time. There is a season for all things and God knows when we have been sufficiently nourished enough to bring forth the beauty in the garden of our hearts.
Have faith and patience that the seeds God has planted in your heart will one day come forth with great beauty. Like the flowers He created, it takes time for their pretty heads of color and fragrance to push through the soil.
What weeds are you waiting for God to prune?
